WASHINGTON — A disturbing propaganda video reportedly circulated by an Iranian state-linked media outlet has drawn renewed attention to security concerns surrounding First Lady Melania Trump and her youngest son, Barron Trump.
The roughly two-minute video, attributed to the Tasnim News Agency, reportedly features images of Melania Trump and references locations in New York City associated with her public appearances and shopping trips. The material has been described by U.S. officials and security observers as threatening and deeply concerning.
According to reports, the video identifies luxury retailers, including Bergdorf Goodman and Saks Fifth Avenue, and depicts images of the first lady’s motorcade near the locations. Graphic markings reportedly highlight the businesses while the narration suggests they could provide opportunities for an attack.
The propaganda reportedly goes further by discussing the possibility of poisoning clothing purchased by Melania Trump and referencing VX, a highly toxic nerve agent. It also reportedly names individuals associated with the first lady and suggests financial incentives could be used to facilitate an attack.
The most direct threat comes near the end of the video, when the message reportedly shifts from Melania Trump to Barron Trump, who is 20 years old.
The alleged threat has heightened concerns about the safety of the Trump family as tensions between Washington and Tehran remain extremely high.
The Secret Service, which protects the president and members of his immediate family, has acknowledged awareness of the reported material. The agency has declined to provide specific information about protective operations, citing security considerations.
Melania Trump and Barron Trump receive Secret Service protection, and security measures remain in place around major locations associated with the Trump family, including the White House, Trump Tower, Mar-a-Lago and the family’s New Jersey property.
The reported video is not the only threatening material to emerge amid heightened tensions between the United States and Iran. Other reports have described anti-Trump propaganda appearing in Tehran, including messages targeting the president and members of his family.
Such material has intensified concerns among U.S. officials and security experts about the potential consequences of inflammatory rhetoric during an already volatile period.
President Donald Trump has previously acknowledged that he has faced threats from Iranian actors and has warned that an attack against him or his family would carry severe consequences.
At the same time, officials have emphasized the importance of distinguishing propaganda from an independently verified operational threat. The existence of threatening material does not, by itself, establish that an attack is imminent or that those responsible possess the capability to carry one out.
For the Secret Service, however, any credible threat involving a protected individual requires careful assessment. Investigators can examine the source of the material, its intended audience, specific language and whether it contains actionable information.
